CPBJH JV brings together two of Australia's leading construction partners, CPB Contractors and John Holland, with unparalleled expertise in large-scale and complex project management, civil construction, traffic management and tunnelling.

The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:

• Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
• Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
• Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
• Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
• Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

The position:

As the Senior Project Engineer for the West Gate Tunnel your responsibilities will include:

• Manage on-site engineering functions through subordinates, which may include Project Engineers, and/or Cost/Planning Engineers
• Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check work drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary.
• Coordinate the activities of an engineering team, programme workloads and provide technical and administrative guidance to the engineering staff to ensure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved
• Accurate forecasts of costs and revenue and utilise corrective action in line with CPBJH JV authority and reporting frameworks to maximise the profit margin
• Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards of supplier, subcontractor quotations/purchase orders as well as subcontractor arrangements
• Participate in planning future requirements including machine tools, ancillary equipment, major plant and labour. Direct site surveys and preparatory work prior to construction.

About you:

To be successful you will ideally have the following experience and capabilities:

• Minimum 10 years electrical engineering experience preferably site based
• Demonstrated experience in HV/LV reticulation and distribution systems, ITS, road/tunnel lighting systems and Control Systems design, installation, and commissioning
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering, Construction Management and Science etc
• Experience using Aconex, Bluebeam would be preferred
• Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects, tunnelling and/or open road specific experience
