The West Gate Tunnel Project is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:

  • Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
  • Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
  • Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
  • Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
  • Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

Your new position:

As the Rail Interface Engineer, you will be responsible for providing interface management for interfacing organisations to WGTP with rail infrastructure (e.g. VicTrack, V/Line, MTM, Yarra, ARTC, Pacific National, Gemco, PTV, etc.)

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide point of contact for design, construction, program, and returned works teams as point of contact to facilitate and resolve issues with interface parties.
  • Provide the relevant management, commercial and technical guidance in any commercial engagements with interface parties.
  • Establish meeting structure/forums to regularly meet and progress interface issues with internal and external parties.
  • Provide reports/updates as required to inform and communicate to relevant internal and external parties.
  • Assist the Interface Manager on specific cross project strategies/initiatives and critical risk mitigations relating to Rail interfaces.
  • Support the Occupation Manager with access negotiation and high level planning
  • Review and support all project engineers and commercial leads with rail party invoices, and all rail party costs borne by the project

About you:

Ideally you will possess demonstrated knowledge of the rail network, where you have gained operational and track protection experience and understand the requirements working around rail electrical assets.

To be successful you will need to possess the following: 

  • Strong safety focus and a willingness to promote a safe working culture.
  • Very good understanding of Rail Operator Work Readiness Process
  • Strong understanding of Rail Occupation requirements, inclusive of Occupation boundaries, Overhead power isolations, workgroup interfaces, safe working requirements and works programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve both technical and general issues with all stakeholders.
  • Level 1 Train Track Awareness as a minimum
  • Construction Industry Card
